December Mixtape: Kitchen Witchin'
By reader request! I've compiled a playlist featuring all of the songs I've been spinning on Instagram Stories over the last few months. I get questions about the music I play in the background of my videos non-stop. I've always loved discovering new music and putting together playlists. I used to spend whole days in high school and college organizing playlists and searching for new artists. Some of my best friends still play the CD's I made for them 10 years ago! Wild! A few readers I know IRL requested this mixtape. I loved putting it together so much I think I'll make this a monthly feature-ette!
It's mostly alt folk with a sprinkling of female electro-pop. I listen to this playlist a lot while playing kitchen alchemist, photographing, editing photos and doing mindless house work. I find it both relaxing and invigorating. Perfect for Winter slowness, with just a bit of danceable brightness to shake it up. If you're a fan of harmonies, heady synth atmosphere and poetical lyrics about forests / bread / love / time / sadness / existence this mix tape is for you!
On the playlist you'll find music by:
Jesca Hoop, Johanna Warren, Julie Byrne, The Staves, Odessa, Elephant Revival, Greylag, This Is The Kit, Devon Sproule, Diane Cluck, Maggie Rogers, Sylven Esso, Empress Of, Flock of Dimes, Lobo Marino and many more!
If you squint you'll see I've added some Charlottesville musicians in the mix. Plus Grizzly Bear's cover of Charlottesville-local Diane Cluck's song "Easy to Be Around" -- so that song is in there twice, the cover and the original for contrast.
Listen here!
Note: You'll need Spotify to play this mix tape.
And hey, why not follow my Spotify profile while you're at it?
Merry whatever-you-celebrate!
